Field
The Field is a one-roll bet that wins on 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, or 12 and loses on 5, 6, 7, or 8. Seven winning numbers against four losers looks generous, which is the trap. The four losing numbers are the most common on two dice, so the edge holds even with the 2 and 12 paying double.

Frequently asked questions
Why does the Field lose if it covers seven numbers?
The four numbers it misses (5, 6, 7, and 8) roll more often than the seven it covers. The 7 alone comes up six ways out of 36. Coverage counts less than how often each number appears.
What do the 2 and 12 pay in the Field?
Usually 2:1, and some tables pay 3:1 on one of them. The bonus on those two rare numbers is what keeps the edge at 5.56% instead of higher, but it is still a one-roll bet to use sparingly.
Is the Field a good bet?
Not really. At 5.56% it costs about four times what the Pass Line does. It is fun for a quick one-roll swing but a poor choice to repeat every throw.
